Hamilton has recorded its second motorcycle-related fatality within 24 hours, prompting police to request any information or video footage from the public.
The incident occurred on Thursday, just after 3:30 p.m., in the eastbound lane of Barton Street East at Barnesdale Avenue North.
A 74-year-old Hamilton man was riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle eastbound on Barton Street East when a Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 59-year-old man from St. Catharines, traveling westbound on the same road, made a left turn across the eastbound lanes. The motorcycle collided with the side of the Jeep, ejecting the rider. The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Hamilton police shut down Upper Paradise Road for several hours to investigate the scene. The road was reopened to traffic by 7 a.m. on Thursday morning. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. No further details have been released at this time.
